Why You Need Shoulder Mobility
Your shoulder have a large amount of range of motion and are super flexible because of the should joint ( ball and socket). The ball and socket joint allows your shoulder to move in multiple directions for activity. This hyper mobility of the joint may also lead to shoulder injuries. (the is why we strengthen / stabilize the area!)
Good range of motion or shoulder mobility is crucial for ADLs or everyday activities of daily living, such as showering, getting dressed, or reaching for areas above your head. It is also important for exercises such as overhead press or for sports that involve throwing or swinging.
Winnie Yu, a physical therapist at Bespoke Physical Therapy in New York City, talks about keeping your shoulders in good shape in this peloton article. She explains how good shoulder mobility can help prevent injuries and decrease your daily pain. If your shoulders don’t have good range of motion, you may start compensating with over parts of your body leading to injuries So keep your shoulders strong and mobile, ready for what each day throws your way!
